- Some photos that were taken on the following weekend after the windstorm, at my parents farm in Cambewarra, just outside Nowra. The strong winds were felt from the NSW south coast, through Victoria and Tasmania. Peak wind gust was 141 km/h at Bellambie Pt just north of Wollongong, at around 17:20 Sunday afternoon. My parents lost their electricity around 14:00 Sunday, it was restored around 13:00 the following Friday, almost 5 days without electricity (except for the arrival of a generator on Wednesday). Nowra sold out of 'D' size batteries, and chainsaws and generators became expensive and hard to find.
141 km/h isn't much in those areas exposed to cyclones, elsewhere it can result in quite a bit of damage. There's some more info available at the Bureau of Meteorology web site.
